This month's front page artwork is by Philadelphia based (textile) artist, Aylor Brown.
We first met Aylor last year in Brooklyn, NY thru mutual friend, Bailey Salisbury of warp weft woof!
Aylor rules, she's talented, funny, and very good looking.
We are def big fans of her work and so very excited for the new projects she is currently working on! (we are gonna keep them secret though, but stay tuned for them by visiting her website, her tumblr, and real normal- the blog she runs with Bailey Salisbury, Carson Fisk-Vittori, and Arend deGruyter-Helfer.)

It's actually an article on Light Vision faves Hui-Hui (whose winter collection "Hibernation" will be available for purchase later this week!), the article showcases their Hibernation collection and credits Light Vision as their stockist, we are thankful Neet Magazine recognizes the sheer talent Hui-Hui possesses and we are also thankful that we (Light Vision) were credited as their stockist!

Sorry for the lack of posts this month! I have been very very very busy.

I took a vacay mid November to Hawaii, which was obviously rad (that's my new word btw), and all this other stuff happened which was exciting for me, but I'm not gonna bore you blog-readers with the deets (this is not my new word btw).

did the artwork for us this month and it rules, seriously rules! Clamato? Yes. Natty Ice? I think so. Dave you think you know us so well and we love it!

It's hard to describe the brilliance behind German label, Hui-Hui but we try, we really do.
We were surfing the web to see what some of our designers were up to this month and we came to find out that Hui-Hui did the artwork for Belgian band BALBAARD.
The artwork looks incredible, I have yet to hear the music, but I'll listen to it based on the premise of the cover, I'm gonna judge this book/recording by its cover!

Designer Spotlight: Crystal Quinn

Now available for purchase: some rad unisex shoes & thimble necklaces by Minneapolis based artist, Crystal Quinn.

Crystal is an amazing person to be around, she lights up every room she's in.
I recently went to North Dakota & Minnesota this summer and was able to make a Minneapolis detour and visit Miss Crystal Quinn. She showed us her beautiful loft that she shares with her boyfriend David Petersen and his little girl.
Since I was there they moved lofts, but are in the same building, it's a WONDERFUL building! Below them lives Annie Larson in a beautiful space with her boyfriend where she makes AMAZING knitwear.

I came home tonight to hear the news that Ari Up, lead singer of one of my all time favorite bands, died today, at 48.
She was really an amazing woman, a huge inspiration, even though i did not know her personally I will miss her. Her music literally changed my life, her voice changed it too.

I'm glad I got to see the Slits live a few years ago.
I don't know what else to say beside the fact that I'm sad, 48 is so young, my mom is 48. Life is "so tough"

Bell, Book, and Candle

The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit by San Francisco-based artist, Michael Guidetti, titled Bell, Book, and Candle. This will be his second solo exhibit with the gallery.

Guidetti continues to explore the relationship between virtual and physical elements by expanding his field to architectural space. Painting the entire gallery a uniform bright green, Guidetti employs an unfixed/in-flux context created by the production environment of chroma-key (green-screen) video compositing technology. Rather than providing a blank neutral space it serves only as a temporary stand-in, demanding to be replaced. The viewer is confronted with this provisional setting in a state of waiting, without a final composite image. Markers for motion tracking and spatial reference placed around the space further enforce the absence of context.

Within the environment an array of equipment actively measures the physical, visual, and acoustic properties of the space. Reminiscent of tools used for ghost hunting, the instruments attempt to describe something non-visible/physical and provide some concreteness to something abstract. A video monitor among the equipment displaying computer generated 3D renderings of the exhibition shown in various perspectives and states, further complicates the ability to reach a complete, relative conception of the space.

New Web Art: Michael Ray-Von

We have new art for the Light Vision front page and the blog header! We luv it, a lot. This time it's done by Michael Ray-Von, who hails from California. He is the singer for CA band Okie Dokie and a young artist whose work I def have an affinity towards.

Michael Ray-Von and Adam Cruces are presently in development of a large-scale, ongoing exhibition of autostereoscopic imagery. And here's a Light Vision autostereogram (a MAGIC EYE with magic eyes!, make three eyes appear and you'll see a secret img)

he also made another image experimenting with video feedback on his laptop ;)

Hai there!

Okay so we have been very very quiet lately, but a lot has actually been happening so no more silence! It's just been so nutz that we hadn't had a chance to wrap our heads around it all...

Okay so first thing is first, Happy summer, welcome to summer it's going to be a good one! We have a new summer lookbook and another in the works! So fun for us (and we hope you) to put the clothes in a different context, and work with inspiring photographers... and models too!

We have some new designers on the site for this season, and some new ones lined up for Fall and Winter!

The biggest news? We moved back to the west coast! Not that we didn't like the east coast (we did and do, tis great). But California was calling us back and we couldn't resist! We are now in Southern California so if you want to mail us goodies or fanmail, drawings (please!) send it all to: 39963-B Millbrook Way, Murrieta, CA 92563

Summer 2010 Lookbook

Our dear friend Bryan Krueger styled and shot our new Summer lookbook, and we are very pleased with the results.
He focused on the pieces as objects, separating them from their names which give them specific functions or purpose. For example, looking at this photo, it's a hat, but at first glance you may not know that.

I really enjoy this catalogue because I feel like it puts emphasis on the craftsmanship of these pieces and the beauty or intrigue they possess on their own, separate from the beautiful or interesting person who may be wearing them.

The new drawing on the website and above this post was done by our dear friend Moses D. Rios, who hails from our old home San Francisco, CA. Well more specifically he's from San Jose, but we are all from a thousand places, right?

We love Mo, we miss Mo and we are stoked on the Bart drawing he made for us!
Other than surfing, wreaking havoc, playing music, and DJing at bars in SF he has a blog that we check daily, cause he updates it daily.

This past Sunday Jessica and I had the pleasure of meeting Aino Vaino, the mastermind behind the Finnish based collection, I Know Why No. Her stuff is amzing if you haven't viewed it before. If you didn't know this already Dimples rulezz, read the review and buy their record! And go to their Myspace page, that the dusted magazine reviewer isn't so amped on ;)

"This is the best part of reviewing records. Some nondescript looking thing shows up, vaguely named, looking like an Ebullition release from 1995, and then it totally blows your hair back. Council Bluffs is like a wild, basement level Exile on Main Street. Saxophones freakout and wail, guitars switch from cleanly overdriven to ratty $2 fuzz box feedback, and the whole thing takes on this air of desperation, teetering on the edge of sliding out of tune. Despite its punk looseness, a lot of ideas are worked out in a classic rock tradition, from big riffs, to slacker choral groups, big stomping soul numbers, and some country touches. At its core Dimples remind me of a non-Vegas Rocket From The Crypt, and Come on Everybody Let’s Rock era Oneida. The singer sounds a lot like Speedo Jr., and to wit, a sneering Axl on the slower numbers. I believe it’s the project of young Stones & Stooges worshiping Gainesville to San Diego transplants. A guileless and fun record that isn’t likely to be welcome at the moody, image crafted party of the current zeitgeist, but I’d still urge people to track down a copy. Back on my game

The title of this post insinuates that I'm gonna get back on my game, in this case update the blog more.
But have you noticed this is becoming a trend? Every five weeks or so I post something similar to this?
Oh well, that's how my cookie crumbles.
First thing is first Happy February!
January was very busy for me, in terms of having fun, not being productive.
It consisted of: a visit from Bailey of Warp Weft Woof!, a visit from my bestie who lives in California, another bestie from California moved in with me!! (miss Danielle of Wreck N' Sew,) I finally got a job (but that was 3 days ago, so does that count for January happenings?), Light Vision added zines and small press to the roster, Light Vision had table space at the _ Quarterly Issue 4 release (where we got to spend time with the lovely Milano from Medium Rare (zines from them coming soon;)), Susie Bubble tweeted about the RosenMunns See-Thru Pants (which brought us some attention), Refinery 29 also brought us some attention due to the See-Thru Pants, and some Polish website (zerplunka.pl??) also posted about the See-Thru Pants... seriously these pants are causing a stir (oohs ahhhs and ewwws... (whatever your personality), Chelsea turned 22 and had a one woman party while Jessica, Dani and I watched, I went to a secret place at Grand Central Terminal (like Harry potter secret, so I can't tell you,) I went to a Harley Davidson party with Miss Audrey Louise Reynolds and Mr. Bryan Krueger, and last Amy Sky from Hidden Spectrum was here, and although I didn't get to visit with her, I did receive a lovely drawing from her that is now the front page artwork for this month, so yay!
What a month, what an update, what a life.
Also my computer screen is still broken, any donations you all wanna throw my way so I can get it fixed will be accepted, no arguments there.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Silent Barn the other night, twas fun. Super good turnout, and talents, I spent most of my time in the front of the space away from all the bands along with Milano from Medium Rare, but we could hear everything from the show and we were in good company;)
Oh and I had my first bag of Cheese Doodles, which were very good, with even better packaging.

(plus you can buy a 30-pack from amazon.com, the back of the bag is where the good packing is, but here's a pic of the front... wow so interesting, glad I'm sharing this with u)

OMG I haven't posted in daze!!! How was everyone's New Year? Mine was good, I fell down some stairs (total bruises!) I was in California for three weeks, and miss Jessica Darakjian took care of shipping! What a gal! She also had her 21st birthday! Damn she's young!
While I was in California I had the honor of cracking my Macbook screen, which is such a dream, I'll fix it soon though. I also managed to get my grandpa's truck broken into, such luck.
All is well now, I'm back in the big apple and I'm organizing the store's inventory.

Since 2006, purveyors in the only garage country licks we've heard and liked. The Superstitions have a sweet new cassette on Wizard Mountain, a label that introduced us to Ty Segal (a dude the band did a split with last year), and Grass Widow. Hopefully some label will get a full-length out of them in the next twelve months.

Best Coast

Creeping out of the shadows of Pocahaunted as a song-writer and talent in her own right, Bethany Cosentino's spattering of 7-inches were among the best examples of jangley west coast garage pop in 2009, and the full-length she and Bobb Bruno are crafting will surely synthesize the ripe emotionalism she manages to capture in her perfunctory lyrics and honest vocal delivery.

The stylist kind of got "wild pair" happy and dressed the models in the exact same outfit, so not very exciting/wild when it comes to showing off the Spring RosenMunns duds, but hey press is press, I'm not complaining, I'm just glad they in it.
I also know that this wild pair aka RosenMunns are not as celeb-centric as the writer for Nylon wants readers to think they are... jeez I sure am a complainer... Nylon please write about light vision (I'll attack Kirsten Dunst at a hot dog stand any ole day of the week, and Kristen Stewart too!) ;)

we woke up at 7am, and started mimosa's at 7:30am, which is when this pic was taken.

8:30am met up with Shea at her subway stop and made our way to the Macy's Day Parade

9:30am At the parade, with a lame view. We knew it was going to be like this, but we went anyway, glad we did, won't go again tho ;) Here's Jess with pink float and then another pic with some reapplied lipstick.

10:30am Paid in full Tofurkey, we were supposed to have a Wheat Roast, but apparently NY isn't down.

New Beginnings...

So it's September, and boy do we have A LOT in store for ya'll!
A few things to keep in mind:

the website is being updated and beautified so there will be a bunch of new features! I am very very excited about this:) I'll give you the deets once it's finished, but it should be done by sometime next week.

Next some fall stuff is coming in, like mono and Hidden Spectrum (new to us this season!) and those will be posted soon.

We are going to start carrying vintage/second-hand clothes, all curated by our special friend Sara Pavao, she's got a good eye for funky finds so we can't wait to see what she's got.

And lastly I am moving to Brooklyn on September 30th! So the store is moving too! Well the url is the same and blah blah, but we will now be located out of NY instead of SF. Oh but we will miss SF like no other!
All of our friends are here, (well kinda, most of them are moving to other states and/or countries!...)
I'm going alone, which is scary and sad cause and Michael (who does all the website biz and who is my boyfriend and friend) is staying in SF, so sad:(
If any of you live in NY be my friend I'm gonna need the company!
